AriesVerb version 0.7.3 released 2009-July-27 Copyright (C) 2004-2009 by Christian Schüler http://www.ariescode.com Release notes ------------- This is AriesVerb 0.7.3, a comprehensive bugfix and usability update in the 0.7 release branch! The most important improvements are multilevel undo/redo, the display settings and the library workflow. The undo history remembers any change made to a program and also the corresponding UI location where the change was made. Pressing undo navigates to the change location so you will not get lost if you made lots of changes. Undo/redo also works across file operations, so it is possible to undo to a position previous to loading another program. Of course, each of the 4 program slots maintains its own undo history! The display settings page is available from the tool symbol of the right- hand side menu bar. There is brightness (be careful ;), GUI screen size, a selection between two display fonts (the classical Original Garamond or the modern Humanist 521), and a selection for the page displayed on startup. There has always been confusion about the preview mode on the library page. The new system works like this: There are two buttons, REVERT and LOAD. You click on a program to preview it, all controls are greyed out, and your only options, besides selecting another program from the library, are REVERT (exit preview mode) or LOAD the program. There will be no second guessing whether the program was loaded or not, or if it is safe to exit the library page, because you can't. Besides that, you can always undo a load operation. The freeze mode is back!! (it magically returned from AriesVerb 0.4, also brought a bypass button with it ;) The inverter frequency is a new modulation target, which makes possible a lot of modulated filter effects. Remember that AriesVerb is only simulating a filter as a very short (microseconds) feedback loop, but besides being a total hack, it sounds surprisingly good even without oversampling! So now you can have envelope or LFO controlled "filters". Another new sound feature is to have different decay times for different delay lines. There is now a half-life modifier next to each delay line in the algorithm page. On application of this feature is to introduce deliberate metallic ringing: You can make some resonant frequencies stay longer. The other application is to have a pronounced long echo line within a reverb, like in the 'Exhibition Hall' preset. I have also been experimenting with composite programs that require two instances of AriesVerb in series. The case was motivated by a combination of pitch shifting and echo/reverb. This indicates the need for a kind of 'dual' program in a future version of AriesVerb. Have fun!
